Back to School: A New, G.O.O.D. Look

Yes, it's really that good and yes that important, but no it's not why I've returned to the blog-o-sphere. And I'm not just talking about my blog. Every music critic over the last week, budding or the otherwise established, have been falling to their knees yet again over the genius that is Kanye West. So what better way to kick off Chapter 2 in "So Necessary" history, than with a great excuse for a post. And I'm not just talking about 'Ye either.
If this were a space I wanted to write my essay on "Why Kany West Can Save the World," I would and very much could write it. Politically, culturally, and economically, Kanye's ability to change the face of rap music and its role in the black community could be unprecedented. Personifying many of America's strengths and weaknesses, Kanye represents what I think we as honest-to-God American's desire out of both a democratic and capitalist nation, innovation and substance. With both his willingness to take risks musically and publicly, Kanye will be remembered for centuries, placing him appropriatley in the group of individuals that contain "the stuff in which legends are made." I can't think of many other artists in the hip-hop world, let alone the pop world, that I'm as excited to grow up with and watch mature.
Now that I've had a chance to gush some, I'd like to do what I came here for: PROMOTE. The "So Necessary" blog, Kanye aside, is partly due to the return of So Necessary Radio in the Fall, on RainyDawg Radio, and also a lovely ms. lady named DJ Rosie who will be collaborating with me to perhaps produce some of the most innovate and substantive (yes, so american, so necessary) parties in the Seattle area. Coming off of a summer in New York City, we believe we too might have the stuff that legends are made of. Can't get too pretentious, but DO get ready, get wet, get open, and we'll be gentle the first time. More to come. Stay tuned.

I can't wait for the day when Rap albums shy away from collective production and toward concept/mosaic MC/producer team-ups. The Neptunes seem to be the only ones who contain the musical prowess and vision to produce an entire hip-hop album. Just Blaze is preparing for Saigon's debut and I have high hopes for that. Timbaland, I know you're bored with hip-hop at the moment but go head, PUSH RAP INTO DISPARATE OBSCURITY! With out further ado:

I'm DJ Kitsch and SO NECESSARY is featured on Rainydawg Radio, Thursday 8AM-10AM. Don't worry, it's archived. AND, this is NOT College/Rock Radio people. Rainydawg is in slight denial as to the potential of this show (note: 8AM jump off) but they will soon come to embrace the heroic nature of So Necessary...

I'll be running this blog in association with the radio station. My previous posts have ranged all musical styles but I'm now officially changing gears to Hip-Hop mode. I would LOVE for those of you (even if it's just you Mom) to take part in dialoguing on the blog. I'll keep you hip to all the latest hop, hook you up with unreleased shit, fly videos, clothes, concerts (Clipse 3/12/07, Chop Suey) and any other urban culture fodder.
